My name is Carol Marion, better known as Ferretmom. I live in Long Island, New York and am the mother of three daughters, Dawn, Sandy and Debi, and two sons, John and Brian. My hubby Fred and I are the proud grandparents of Jessica (3 yrs) and Kevin (2 1/2 months) and soon to be grandparents of either Ken or Courtney which is due in November.

All of us love animals and can't stand to hear of any being abused in any way. At the moment we have a dog, (Teddy) three cats (Bubbles, Freckles and Baby Girl) a rabbit (Oreo) and 13 ferrets. If you'd like to know their names and see what they look like, just visit my site. http://ferretmom.tripod.com/

My son Brian introduced me to ferrets. He was working in a pet stall in an indoor fleamarket and the owner at times didn't take in enough money to pay his help, so he would give them something in his store to cover what he owed them. Brian fell in love with a sweet little baby ferret and when he told me about her I said NO! Absolutely not! We had enough animals in the house and didn't need any more.

I guess he knew me better than I knew myself because when I went to pick him up from work, all he had to do was put that baby ferret on my shoulder and let her give me a kiss and she came home with us that evening.

I knew nothing about ferrets when I brought her home. The only thing I had to keep her in at the time was a large bird cage and for her dinner that night, she ate the canned cat food I gave our cats. The next morning, I went shopping for books and magazines about ferrets. I read everything I could find and got anything in the pet department that had a picture of a ferret on it.

I was fortunate in my choices because I started her on Marshalls ferret food and ferretone, I didn't know about Totally Ferret food then.

We named this little sweetheart Rikki Tikki Tavi and called her Rikki for short.
Rikki's first cage was a large rabbit cage which we made into two stories. About two or three months after Rikki came to live with us, my daughter Debi demanded to get a ferret of her own. She wanted a ferret to sleep with too.
That cage I got for Rikki kind of sat in the corner empty because Rikki had the run of the house and would curl up and sleep with my hubby and I each night.

Debi had given Brian's boss the money she had saved for her ferret, and after waiting for over a month without any ferrets arriving, he gave her Izzy to bring home and told her she could bring him back and exchange him for a baby ferret as soon as they had a delivery.

Izzy was around a year old and had lived in his brother's pet shop. To me Izzy was the most beautiful ferret I had ever seen and I fell in love with him on sight. He became part of our family and when that litter of baby ferrets arrived, we couldn't part with him.

This was the beginning of our ferret family and over the years we have taken in rescues and also brought them home from pet stores when we didn't like the conditions they were living in.
My hubby has also given me a ferret as a special Valentines gift and there has also been a couple of times when I've visited the store where I buy my Totally Ferret food, and refused to leave without a ferret in my arms.

The one time was when I noticed a baby ferret that hadn't healed from being neutered. She still had scabs and a raw spot on her belly and was laying on wood shavings. Every time I reached in to lift her, an older male ferret would latch onto my arm and would follow me wherever I walked.
That little guy was trying to make eye contact with me. He wanted to come with us so bad, I didn't have to heart to leave him behind.
This is when we added Nala and Simba to our family.

My human children decided to pool their resources and give me my webtv for Christmas in 98. I knew there had to be other people out there that loved animals as much as I did and couldn't wait to get online.
Early the next morning my son Brian hooked everything up for me and showed me how to work the keyboard.

WOW!!! It was like " A WHOLE NEW WORLD " opened up for me. The first thing I did was put the word ferrets in my search engine to try and find anything I could about these amazing animals.
The next was finding a news group about them. I noticed everyone had pictures on their e-mails and was determined to learn how to get some ferrets on mine.

Once I learned my basic html I wanted a site of my own so I could show the world how beautiful my babies were and when I was asking for help on the big board, I noticed a new poster being flamed.

This was when Regina and I became friends. We discovered that not only did we have a lot in common,( we both have boy and girl twins and our oldest daughter is named Dawn) and we think exactly alike.
Since then we have become best friends and partners in all our web sites.

With Regina's help we were able to keep our news group open and in the process met the best group of girls on the web.
This is more than a news group now, we are family and I thank the Lord every night for bringing them into our lives.
